Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital
When Chicago’s Gilded Age titans – McCormick, Field, Shedd – moved to the country, it didn’t take long to realize they’d need a hospital. They built “Alice Home” (Lake Forest Hospital) to serve these new residents, longtime farmers, and a small community of formerly enslaved people.
I was proud to be the first to write this little-known history and collaborate with local artists and archivists. The 135-page coffee table book was used exclusively as a gift for donors, but community stories became the core of the hospital’s broader marketing and philanthropy strategy (prior to being purchased by Northwestern Medicine).
